At Biodiversity Reports, An International Journal, we uphold a rigorous and transparent peer-review process that ensures the publication of high-quality, original, and impactful research in the fields of economics, finance, business, management, and policy studies. Our reviewers play a crucial role in maintaining the academic excellence, fairness, and integrity of the journal.

Before Reviewing

Reviewers are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the Aims and Scope of Biodiversity Reports and the following peer-review principles before accepting an invitation to review.

  • Scope Suitability: Reviewers should ensure that the manuscript falls within their area of expertise. If the topic lies outside their specialization, they must promptly notify the Editorial Office and may suggest alternative qualified reviewers.
  • Timeliness: Timely reviews are essential for efficient editorial processing. Reviewers should complete their reports within the stipulated deadline or contact the editorial team to request an extension if additional time is required.

Ethical Responsibilities of Reviewers

Conflicts of Interest

To maintain impartiality, reviewers must disclose any potential conflicts of interest, including but not limited to:

  • Working or having recently worked at the same institution as the author(s).
  • Collaborating with the author(s) on recent projects or publications.
  • Having personal, financial, or professional relationships that could bias their judgment.
  • If a reviewer identifies a potential conflict, they should inform the editorial team immediately. The Editor-in-Chief will assess the situation and decide whether reassignment is necessary.

Confidentiality

All manuscripts under review are confidential documents.

Reviewers must not share, discuss, or use any part of the manuscript for personal advantage or research purposes.

If a reviewer wishes to consult a colleague for technical advice, prior approval from the Editorial Office must be obtained.

Any individuals who assist in the review process must be acknowledged in the journal’s internal records and will receive due recognition.

Anonymity

Biodiversity Reports, An International Journal follows a single-blind peer review model, meaning:

  • Reviewers remain anonymous to authors, while reviewers can see the authors’ names and affiliations.
  • Reviewers must not reveal their identity in the review comments or correspondence.
  • If a reviewer wishes to disclose their identity for transparency, this must be coordinated through the Editorial Office.

Unbiased Evaluation

Reviewers are expected to provide objective, evidence-based, and impartial assessments of manuscripts. Evaluation must not be influenced by nationality, institutional affiliation, gender, religion, political beliefs, or other personal characteristics of the authors.

Reviews should focus solely on the quality, originality, and relevance of the research presented.

Misconduct Reporting

Reviewers must immediately notify the editorial team if they identify any potential research or publication misconduct, such as:

  • Plagiarism or self-plagiarism
  • Fabrication or falsification of data
  • Duplicate submission or publication
  • Ethical issues in data collection or reporting

Maintaining integrity in academic publishing is a shared responsibility between authors, reviewers, and editors.

Rating Standards for Peer Review

Reviewers should assess the manuscript according to the following key dimensions:

1. Novelty and Originality

Does the paper present new theories, models, empirical results, or methodologies in economics or finance?

Does it contribute fresh insights or challenge existing paradigms?

2. Significance and Relevance

Is the topic timely, relevant, and significant to the economics and finance community?

Does it have potential implications for policymakers, industry, or academia?

3. Methodological Rigor and Scientific Soundness

Is the research design robust and appropriate for the objectives?

Are statistical and econometric analyses correctly applied and interpreted?

Are data sources credible, valid, and well-documented?

4. Clarity of Presentation

Is the paper clearly written, logically organized, and easy to follow?

Are tables, figures, and models well-presented and informative?

Does the conclusion effectively summarize key findings and implications?

5. Language and Formatting

Is the English language fluent and academically appropriate?

Are there grammatical or stylistic errors that need correction?

Review Report Format

Reviewers’ comments are crucial for both editorial decisions and author revisions. A complete review report should include:

  • Detailed Comments: Constructive feedback on novelty, significance, methodology, clarity, and language. Comments should highlight both strengths and weaknesses, suggesting specific improvements where necessary.
  • Recommendation Category: Reviewers are asked to provide an overall recommendation, selecting one of the following:
  • Acceptance: Manuscript is ready for publication in its current form.
  • Minor Revision: Small improvements needed before acceptance.
  • Major Revision: Significant revisions required, such as expanded data analysis, improved theoretical discussion, or enhanced structure.
  • Rejection: Manuscript has serious methodological flaws, lacks originality, or does not fit within the journal’s scope.

If the reviewer wishes to evaluate the revised version, this should be mentioned in the report.

Recognition for Reviewers

Biodiversity Reports, An International Journal highly values the time and expertise contributed by reviewers. To express appreciation for their service, the journal provides the following:

  • Annual Reviewer Acknowledgment: Public recognition in an annual list of contributing reviewers.
  • Reviewer Certificate: Issued upon completion of each review.
  • Publons and ORCID Integration: Reviewers are encouraged to record verified reviews on Publons and link them to their ORCID profile.
  • Editorial Board Opportunities: Outstanding reviewers may be invited to join the Editorial or Advisory Board based on performance and expertise.
